Guest Rooms

On the ground floor you will find the lobby and cafe area with bar and shared toilets. The second floor of the nationally registered tangible cultural property features four guest rooms. Two room face the sea, and two rooms face the mountain. Each room has its own unique character; please relax and enjoy the room that best suits you.

Matsu

Seaside

This room is our signature room with a great view overlooking the harbour and beyond. This was the former dining hall where parties were held and geisha danced, hence the wood decorations refer to the three friends of winter (pine-bamboo-plum) which are a symbol of celebration. The pillars of the toko-no-ma (the alcove) are made from rare straight pine wood, which is why it was named Matsu (pine tree).

Keyaki

Mountainside

This room is our standard room consisting of a seating area and a sleeping area. The doors open to the original veranda stretching the length of the house above the entrance area. It used to consist of two rooms which were remodelled during the previous ownership, but the original Japanese Selkova (Keyaki) beam that remained was kept showing the beautiful wood grain.

Take

Mountainside

This spacious room is made up of three separate rooms; the sleeping room with beds, the living room with seating and the dressing room with the shower and toilet. Every room has the traditional toko-no-ma (alcove) and contains other precious historical features such as original glass windows with bamboo decorations from the early 1900's and the bamboo lattice work in the living room. The bamboo (take) features gave the name to this room and are reminders of the early 1900's when the house was known as Takeya (The Bamboo Inn).

Sakura

Seaside

This is a small and cozy room which has a great view over the harbour from the small veranda space. The toko-no-ma is made with Japanese cherry wood (sakura) giving this room its name. The walls are black which is said to be a reminder of WW2 to limit the light pollution to avoid air-raids. It is the only room which has no bed but only futon.

Please note that room Sakura has no en-suite toilet and shower. Guests can use the toilets of the cafe space downstairs and the family bath once it is finished. Until then, there is no option to shower or bath on site.
